Ammonium chloride is an ammonium nitrogen fertilizer with a nitrogen content between 24% and 26%. It is divided into two types: powder and granular. Granular ammonium chloride is not easy to absorb moisture and is easy to be stored. The powdery ones are mostly used as basic fertilizers for compound fertilizers, which are physiologically acidic fertilizers, and their mechanism of action is similar to that of ammonium sulfate, but the soil acidification caused by the application of ammonium chloride is more serious than that of ammonium sulfate.

1. Used as base fertilizer: After ammonium chloride is used as base fertilizer, it is best to water it in time so that the chloride ions in the fertilizer can be washed to the lower layer of the soil to reduce the adverse effects on crops. In subtropical rainy areas, a small amount of base fertilizer can be used without watering.

2. Used as top dressing: ammonium chloride is most suitable for top dressing of rice. It is better than ammonium sulfate with the same amount of nitrogen. However, when ammonium chloride is used as top dressing, the principle of a small amount and multiple times should be mastered.

Ammonium chloride contraindications

3. It is not suitable to apply it on acidic soil. Ammonium chloride is a physiologically acidic fertilizer. If it is applied on acidic soil, it will be like "adding insult to injury", which will lead to more serious acidification of the soil and is not conducive to crop growth.

4. It is not suitable to apply it on saline-alkaline soil. The application of ammonium chloride on saline-alkali soil will inevitably increase the accumulation of chlorine in the soil and aggravate the damage to crops.

5. It is not suitable to be used as seed fertilizer and seedling fertilizer. After ammonium chloride is applied to the soil, it will produce a variety of high-concentration chloride solutions, which will affect the germination of seeds and the growth of seedlings in severe cases.
